Team Notes
Eduardo "Dudu" Barrichello secured his second MOTUL Pole Award in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park.
Barrichello led the opening 22 laps of the two-hour, 40-minute sprint race before pitting for four tires and fuel. A pit gun issue slowed the stop, and during the confusion, a crew member inadvertently assisted in a prohibited area, resulting in a drive-through penalty for the No. 27 Aston Martin Vantage. The combination of the lengthy pit stop and penalty dropped Barrichello to the back of the GTD field.
A full-course caution on lap 29 allowed the No. 27 strategy to recover, as Barrichello stayed on track to rejoin the lead lap before restarting 11th.
Roman De Angelis took over the No. 27 Vantage with just over 45 minutes remaining. Racing at his home circuit, the Canadian charged through the field and was battling for fifth on the final lap before ultimately crossing the finish line in sixth.
Chatting with the drivers…
Roman De Angelis: “It was a tough day for the No. 27. I feel like we had really good race pace all weekend, and probably could have just been in the position to stay in the front and lead the whole way. A bit of a shame with the pit stop, and then the drive-through put us a lap down; we really had to fight hard to get back to the field. We still salvaged good points for Dudu, and that’s most important. Dudu did a great job during his stints, and I was able to pass a few guys during my stint to help get more points. It was kind of a day of what-could-have-been, but it was so nice to be back in the GT car with the 27 crew. I really enjoyed the weekend.”
