The Heart of Racing returns to VIR for IMSA GT only weekend

Alton, Va. (August 19, 2025) - The No. 27 Heart of Racing Team will head to VIRginia International Raceway this weekend for the Michelin GT Challenge for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship. The No. 27 team goes into the weekend just 117 points shy of the GTD Championship points leader and only five points away from the second-place contender.

Casper Stevenson and Tom Gamble will both make their VIR debut as the duo looks to close the gap in the championship points standings with just three races left in the season. Stevenson and Gamble, alongside endurance teammate Zacharie Robichon, have three podium finishes this season. Most recently, the trio won the Sahlen’s Six Hours of the Glen in June and have finished on the podium at the Rolex 24 at Daytona and the Twelve Hours of Sebring.

Though Stevenson and Gamble are both new to the 3.27-mile track, the Heart of Racing No. 27 crew has its fair share of starts at VIR. To date, Gunn still holds the track record for the GTD class, set in October 2021, with a lap time of 1:43.356 and a speed of 113.897mph.

“VIR is another new track for both Tom and me,” said Stevenson. “I’m confident we can be fighting at the front again. I hope to have a strong finish to the sprint season. It would be great to continue to close the championship points gap going into the final two races of the year.”

“I can’t wait to head to VIR,” said Gamble. “It’s my first time there, and a track that I’ve always wanted to experience. We unfortunately missed out on a strong result at Road America, so the plan is to return to the podium!”

In 2022, Roman De Angelis and Maxime Martin secured a podium finish on board the No. 27 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Vantage in the GTD category. That same year, Ross Gunn set a fast lap in GTD PRO qualifying, putting the Vantage on pole for the two-hour and 40-minute race.

Most recently in 2024, De Angelis teamed up with Robichon to cross the finish line in second in the GTD class, while Alex Riberas and Gunn finished third in GTD PRO.

The Michelin GT Challenge at VIR will take the green flag on Sunday, August 21st at 2:10pm ET with live coverage in the U.S. on USA Network and Peacock. The race will also be live-streamed on IMSA’s YouTube channel for international viewers. Saturday’s qualifying will be live on Peacock at 4:55pm ET.
