Chatting with the drivers…
Eduardo “Dudu” Barrichello : “It was a lovely day, really. We started off the weekend struggling a lot in FP1, and I think the whole team did a great job of getting us into the window. Tom did an amazing job, and I’m proud of how I drove, too. We’re back on the podium, which is really good. Four races, three podium finishes are pretty good. I’m really happy with the result. Obviously, we wanted a win, but every single race we’re just closer and closer to the win.”
Tom Gamble : “I think we can be very happy with coming away with second. We played a pretty safe strategy and made a sort of mature call not to take the risk. We’re in a good position in the championship, and I think we’ve extended our lead, too. I think if we had said second after FP1, we would have definitely taken that. The team did a really good job of making the car quicker throughout the weekend. They should be very proud of the work they did, and looking forward to Watkins Glen, a track where we have had some good results. Fingers crossed, we can get back on the top step. “

When the only caution came out at the hour-and-a-half remaining mark, De Angelis pitted for right-side tires and fuel.
De Angelis made one last pit stop with 55 minutes remaining for left side tires and fuel. In the final 10 minutes of the race, De Angelis made two passes to finish eighth.
Chatting with the drivers…
Ross Gunn : “Overall, it was a fun weekend. It is always a pleasure to drive this track. I definitely think that we had more potential, pace, and performance. This weekend, we had our best qualifying of the year and held pace throughout the entire race with those contending for the podium. Eighth is definitely not something that we wanted to achieve, but a positive is that we finished within ten seconds of the win. I think that’s a really good step forward from where we have been for the majority of the year. Thank you to everyone on the team; they’ve been great. We know Detroit is a tough track for us, so we’ll look forward to the end of the season, where we have a lot of tracks that are going to suit the strengths of the car.”
Roman De Angelis : “I think it was our first proper showing of the year. I think that we were a little bit different in strategy than everyone else, which made it a bit tough throughout the race. Ross did a great job in qualifying. The team did a great job all weekend. We made a gamble on strategy, and not to say it didn’t pay off, but it was different. We were in the mix; there were four or five cars directly in front of us that we were fighting with. Happy to finally get a good result.”
