The Heart of Racing finishes eighth at the Detroit Grand Prix

Detroit, Mich. (June 1, 2025) - Ross Gunn and Roman DeAngelis secured an eighth place finish for the Aston Martin THOR Team during the Detroit Grand Prix. The Detroit race marks the fourth IMSA race for the No. 23 Aston Martin Valkyrie and second street race for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Series this season.

De Angelis, who grew up on the other side of the Canadian border in Windsor, qualified eleventh for the duo after two practice sessions on Friday.

Saturday’s 100 minute race had the first full course caution within the first five minutes of the race. De Angelis took the first stint, driving 20 laps before handing the No. 23 Heart of Racing Aston Martin Valkyrie to Gunn in a well executed green flag pit stop.

Gunn was able to hold ninth place through the pit rotation when a second caution caused the field to slow. Gunn made a pass on lap 65 for eighth through to the checkered flag as the Valkyrie continues to make progress in its debut season.

“I think it was definitely a difficult track for us,” said De Angelis. “It’s nothing like we’ve ever driven with the Valkyrie in the past. We knew it wasn’t going to be an easy weekend, but I think we made the most of it. We had another eighth place finish after starting eleventh. I think we made good progress, we stayed clean. The team just executed well all weekend long. I’m looking forward to going to some more normal-ish track with Watkins Glen and Road America, two of my favorite events.”

The Heart of Racing will compete in the 24 Hours of Le Mans on June 14 with three entries before the team’s IMSA squad heads to Watkins Glen for the next round of the IMSA Endurance Championship, June 20-22.
